How do I sign up to volunteer?
You can sign up online through our [Volunteer Sign-Up Form] or by contacting us at info@leafb.org or calling 972-294-4061. Whether you’re an individual, family, or group, we’d love to have you join us.

What volunteer opportunities are available?
We offer a variety of ways to help, both for individuals and groups:
Individual Volunteer Opportunities:

Donation Pickup: Our new and exciting opportunity! Partnering with local businesses like HEB and Costco, volunteers help pick up donated items on scheduled days and “on demand.”

Regular pickups:

Bread and other items from HEB on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday

Items from Costco on Monday, Thursday, and possibly Friday

Helpful skills: Access to midsize SUV or larger (truck preferred), flexibility for on-demand pickups, ability to lift moderately heavy items

Warehouse Volunteers: Work behind the scenes preparing and organizing food boxes, sorting and dating donated food, restocking shelves, and helping ensure smooth distribution to neighbors.

Helpful skills: Enjoy organizing, flexibility with changing tasks, and working behind the scenes

Intake Volunteers: Assist neighbors at the front desk by verifying ID and addresses, pulling files, helping first-timers complete paperwork, and maintaining up-to-date records.

Group Volunteer Opportunities:
Groups of all sizes are welcome, including church groups, school clubs, scouts, community organizations, and corporate teams. Group activities mainly include filling food boxes and restocking shelves, but we can also tailor projects to meet your group’s interests. Groups receive a short orientation about our mission and impact.

What are the volunteer hours?
Volunteer shifts are available during our regular operating hours:

Monday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Tuesday: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Thursday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Friday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Special opportunities:

Student Volunteer Nights: Mondays (check calendar for times)

Family Volunteer Events: Held occasionally — dates announced on our website and social media
Evening and weekend opportunities may be available for donation pickups and special events.

Is there an age requirement?
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer without a guardian present. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, except during Family Volunteer Events where younger children can participate in age-appropriate activities.

Do I need training before volunteering?
Yes! Every new volunteer receives a thorough orientation and training from experienced staff and volunteers. You’ll learn about policies, procedures, and your specific tasks. Multiple volunteers help each role during every shift, so you’ll have plenty of support.

Can groups or companies volunteer together?
Absolutely! We love working with groups of all sizes and tailor opportunities to fit your needs. Contact us to schedule a group volunteer day.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes for your safety and comfort.
